New Belle Vue Park Café and Toilets

Proposals to replace ageing and vandal-prone toilets at Sudbury’s Belle Vue Park with a new environmentally friendly café and new toilets, including high specification accessibility features and baby changing, were approved by Babergh District Council’s Cabinet at its meeting of 05 September 2023.

The funding package for the new café and toilets includes using the capital receipt from the May 2023 sale of Belle Vue House, alongside the Council’s ringfenced budget for improving the equipment and facilities at the park located in Sudbury’s historic town centre.

A planning application was lodged on 25 October 2023 and received unanimous approval by the Council’s Planning Committee on 10 January 2024. The Council is able to move on to the next stage which includes groundworks, demolition of the existing toilet block will commence early this year. Temporary toilets will be installed until the new building is in place – expected in spring 2024.

The Council is seeking bid proposals from potential tenants to operate the café. Please see the Invitation to Bid pack for information on how to bid.  The closing date for bids is 1:00pm on Monday 4th March 2024. Should you have any questions please contact the regeneration team

As the café is a modular unit, fabricated mainly off-site, the amount of time that construction and installation works will be needed in the park will be minimised. It will have solar panels, air sourced heat pump, and EPC rating ‘A’ in line with the Council’s ambition for delivering a durable, efficient, and sustainable facility for all users of the park.
