Recent events have demonstrated that the freight and logistics industry is paramount for UK’s economy, highlighting the importance of multi-disciplinarity and transferability of skills to ensure resilience, promptness, and competitiveness. The sector is in constant growth and is generating a breadth of work opportunities across the whole country – both for low skilled and higher skilled workers. However, these positions are rarely accessed by young individuals due to a lack of attractiveness that seems to be a characterising pattern for this sector.
The Freight Innovation Cluster is committed to encouraging accessibility, diversity, and inclusion – which is why this event can be a catalyst for change. For this reason, Connected Places Catapult will be co-delivering an Industry Day & Hackathon challenge with Freeport East and the Clacton Coastal Academy. The event is not intended only for stakeholders operating in the industry within the Freeport East area and beyond, but it also aims to address pupils from Y10-12 who may consider exploring careers in freight and logistics, thereby providing encouragement.
The industry day will:
- Raise awareness around the breadth of opportunities available within the sector of freight and logistics.
- Encourage youth to explore and pursue a career in freight and logistics.
- Will showcase and explore the innovation and technological advances within the freight industry.
- Encourage networking and collaborative thinking around career development, skills, talent retention.
