Digital Markets Competition Regime

Digital Markets Competition Regime

Competition and Markets Authority

New powers for the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) came into force on 1 January to reduce the imbalance of power between small and big businesses in the digital market.

Under the new digital markets competition regime, the CMA can designate firms with “strategic market status” for specific digital activities, and then put requirements on their conduct and intervene for other smaller businesses and consumers.
