Supporting Unpaid Carers in the Workforce
Suffolk County Council recognises the vital role that unpaid carers play in our communities and in our workforce. As part of their ongoing commitment to improving support for unpaid carers, they’ve developed the Suffolk All Age Carers’ Strategy 2022–2027, which outlines clear, strategic objectives to make Suffolk a more carer-friendly county.
One of their key goals is to recruit, retain, and support unpaid carers in the workplace. That’s where the new Caring Companies programme comes in – an exciting new offer in partnership with Suffolk Family Carers.
It is a 3-tiered recognition scheme designed to celebrate and support organisations that champion unpaid carers within their workforce.
Participating organisations can be awarded at Bronze (funded by Suffolk County Council), Silver, or Gold level. Organisations can begin their journey at Bronze. From there you can progress to higher levels by embedding stronger policies and support for unpaid carers within your workplace. Each level recognises your commitment and progress.
Bronze Award requires a commitment to complete Employers Workshop for managers/supervisors, Employee Sessions for family carers in the workplace, having a family carer champion and a broader knowledge of support available through Suffolk Family Carers.
