Skills and Training

Skills

Skills and training for staff, upskilling your supply chain, supporting young people. These are all challenges for businesses but there are opportunities and support that can help you with these.

We work closely with partner organisations and providers to ensure that we can provide you with up to date and current information and access to these. We support directly, where appropriate for us to do so. These are a few of the current programs available to support you with your skills and training needs:

The Pathways Training Fund – Suffolk County Council

Skills Bootcamps – New Anglia

Employers – Apprenticeships Suffolk

Here are a few of the things we are working on at Babergh and Mid Suffolk;

Support for young people

Everybody knows that we live, go to work, and go to school in an area that is well known for being beautiful. Not everyone realises that it’s also an area that offers amazing opportunities for work and business. From small businesses that are growing from one person’s idea to big global players who are already leaders in their industry. From crafts to creatives, from finance to food, advanced AI to robotics and everything in between – the choice is vast! By offering our businesses the chance to show people what they do we aim to offer you a unique way of finding out more.

Are you are a forward-thinking business looking for new ways to engage with young people about what you do? Do you simply want to help a young person’s future? You can bring to life different career opportunities and provide valuable insight about the skills they need to be work-ready and successful.

Businesses of all shapes and sizes have so much to offer, please get in touch to see how we can help you to show young people what’s possible.

Film Industry career session 2022

In response to business desire to connect with young people and to improve the information about themselves and their industries we have developed Careeriosity . This brings bite-size chunks of industry specific career sessions to young people aged 13-24. Sessions last around 2 hours and are held at local businesses or venues. These sessions are led by professionals who are keen to give targeted advice and insider knowledge about breaking into their field.

Are you a business looking to help young people in their careers?

The New Anglia Careers Hub brings together schools, colleges, employers and providers to drive forward a careers education that will support the ambitions of the business community in Norfolk and Suffolk and its young people.

Youth Entrepreneurship program

With 89% of 9,000 businesses in Babergh and Mid Suffolk employing less than 10 people it is impossible to overstate the importance of small and micro businesses to our economy, yet this is something that is all too often invisible to many young people.

2022/23 has seen a partnership between Menta, West Suffolk Council and Babergh Mid Suffolk run a pilot program that offers young people the opportunity to understand the importance, challenges and opportunities of starting your own business .
