Witches, Legends and Curious Tales from the Heart of Suffolk
The history of Babergh and Mid Suffolk is rich with stories and legend. From the chilling echoes of the Suffolk witch trials to the tales of fairies, green children, changelings, curious myths and dark legends passed down through generations.
To explore this hidden past, we created a special programme of events, a mini festival dedicated to uncovering the mysteries of Suffolk’s past. The festival was built around two distinct themes:
The Heart of Suffolk Witch Trials – Delving into the tragic stories of the men and women accused of witchcraft, the fear that swept through the region, and the impact these events had on the communities of Babergh and Mid Suffolk.
Strange but True? – A journey into the folklore, fables, and strange happenings that have shaped local storytelling, from ghostly encounters to legendary figures woven into the history of the Heart of Suffolk.
Each theme brought its own unique insights into our shared past. Through walks, talks, and film screenings we invited the public to step back in time and discover the stories of Suffolk’s lesser-known history.
