Suffolk Artist Claire Weeks

Snowball, Pip and Squeak; three lively chickens belonging to artist Claire Weeks and inspiration for the cheerful range of tableware, greetings cards and paintings she produces at her home in Alpheton near Sudbury. Her work is energetic and free flowing, giving the impression of movement and character in the chickens which feature in most of her paintings.
"I love painting chickens" says Claire, "They are such characters! I love their colours and when I paint, I often mix colours on the paper; one colour flows into another and wonderful things happen"
Claire and her husband have recently moved back to East Anglia after 16 years living in Berwick Upon Tweed and as well as being an artist, she also runs a B&B business where she can utilise the skills she acquired during her training for a Cordon Bleu Cookery Diploma. She enjoys cooking for her guests and also offers an evening meal if required.
"We have lots of wedding enquiries from people getting married at Alpheton Hall Barn, which is a 15 minutes' walk away. We quickly realised groups and families want to be together, and we have three rooms which can easily take a group of six. Guests can have their own communal dining area and enjoy a meal in private."
Claire is enjoying her busy life juggling both businesses and she still finds time to hone her painting skills by attending a weekly art class. Her tableware and artwork are selling well and what are her plans for the future? "I am looking forward to painting local views of Suffolk" says Claire, "this is such a wonderful area with so many artists and talented people around and I am sure I will be inspired, so watch this space!"
