It might be snowing today, but spring is in the air at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary – a time of great excitement and activity when many of the resident birds are laying and hatching eggs.
Everyone loves a fluffy baby owl and it is hoped that this year’s expectant mums will include Ural, Great Horned, Tawny and European Eagle Owls, Red Kites and Falcons. Why not pay them a visit at the sanctuary to catch a glimpse of these little superstars?
The sanctuary’s exciting programme of spring events starts with SPOIL YOUR MUM DAY on Sunday 10th March. Young visitors can treat mum to a photograph with an owl (you will need to book in advance) and pot her a plant. You can also watch a bird-exercising session, as the falconers start to prepare the birds of prey for the new flying season.
Those keen on conservation can keep up to date with the progress of the wild hospital admissions and explore the pretty Woodland Walk – home to a breeding colony of red squirrels. Fun lovers will enjoy the cheeky rabbits, guinea pigs and chipmunks and an entertaining family of meerkats.
Over Easter Weekend the sanctuary’s 80 owls and birds of prey will reside over the traditional EASTER EGG HUNT as well as daily flying displays and meerkat feeding sessions.
On Easter Monday they will play host to the popular JENNY’S ARK PETTING ZOO offering handling sessions with rabbits, guinea pigs, lizards and snakes. Jenny’s fascinating creatures will also be visiting the sanctuary on both MAY BANK HOLIDAYS
