Primrose Cottage in Kersey

Primrose Cottage Kersey

18th century Primrose Cottage sits in the heart of one of Suffolk's prettiest villages. Kersey is known for its picture-postcard good looks and despite its fame, is a peaceful and secluded spot for a holiday in Suffolk. The village has a ford crossing its main street (where ducks have priority over cars), a village pub and a church on the hill.

Primrose Cottage is owned by Claire O'Sullivan and her husband, who have worked hard to turn it into an award-winning haven and a romantic hideaway for two people.

The couple bought the cottage in early 2014, having fallen in love with the area after a holiday in nearby Nayland. They use it as a holiday home themselves on occasion, but enjoy letting it out to visitors too. The cottage has been carefully restored and retains many of its original features, with lots of beams and an inglenook fireplace with a cosy log burner. The O'Sullivans have ensured that everything is of the highest quality, from the comfortable furnishings, to the generous welcome basket filled with local produce.

The list of accolades for the holiday cottage is long and includes a Gold Award, a Rose Award, a Green Tourism Gold Award and it has been assessed as four stars by Visit England, the national tourism body.

All of these awards involve assessment against strict and comprehensive criteria, and a visit from an inspector. “To gain the Green Tourism Award, an inspector from Green Tourism undertook an accreditation grading visit” says Claire. “The visit assesses against ten criteria including management, marketing and communication, social responsibility and sustainable procurement.”

The Rose Award is in recognition of service excellence and is based on a nomination from the Visit England inspector as well as guest feedback.

Claire is living up to her green credentials by offering guests staying in the cottage before the end of August, a gift, such as honey or a special soap, which has been made in Suffolk. “The aim of the gift is to showcase Suffolk produce and encourage all of our guests to shop locally during their stay in Kersey” she says.

Customer feedback has been glowing with people loving the cosiness, the peaceful surroundings and the generous extras: “Thank you for providing the best cottage we have ever stayed in!” says one. “Also thank you for the hamper, yet again the best we have ever had. I will be telling all my friends who may be visiting Suffolk to stay at Primrose Cottage.”
