Keeping children busy during the half term holiday in a cold week in February might seem a bit of a challenge, but there are lots of things for them to do in the Heart of Suffolk. Here are a few ideas…

SOS

The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary at Stonham Barns near Stowmarket has over 80 raptors and more than 90 owls and other birds of prey. Take a woodland walk and meet the squirrels, chipmunks and meerkats, which are hugely appealing and entertaining.

Wander Through Snowdrops

Open every day during half term week, Kentwell Hall in Long Melford has some lovely walks through magical woodland. Put on your wellies and explore the Storybook Trail where you will find scenes from popular stories, with an excerpt from each story to read along the way.

Feed the Farm Animals

Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm near Ipswich has just welcomed their spring lambs into the world and children are invited to visit them to feed them and have a cuddle. There are also animals to see at Jimmy’s Farm just outside of Ipswich and at Hollow Trees Farm near Hadleigh.

Fly a Kite

Take part in Activities Unlimited at the Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket on Wednesday, 15th February. Aimed at children and young people with disabilities aged 3-24, there will be a kite-making workshop followed by a kite-flying session.

Get Crafty

Head over to the very picturesque Kersey Mill for some crafting sessions at Glass and Craft. Both of their art studios will be open during half term, offering the opportunity to try out nine different crafts, including glass and ceramic painting, decopatch, woodpainting, mosaics and more. Booking is not essential, but advisable during school holidays.

Learn about Weird Wildlife

Wrap up warm and explore Redgrave and Lopham Fen with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust on Tuesday, 14th February, to learn about all the weird and wonderful wildlife there is to see there. This activity day is for unaccompained 6-10 year olds and includes games and crafts. Booking is essential.
