The recently refurbished gift shop in Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury is stocked to the brim with lovely artsy gifts and books and the items on sale reflect the history of the building and fit the themes of Thomas Gainsborough, art and the Georgian period.

The garden at the house, which is planted with plants of the period and has the most fabulous 400 year old mulberry tree, has inspired some of the gifts and other goodies include a range of pearl jewellery and Gainsborough-themed stationery.  There are also some silk items for sale, which is a tip of the hat to Sudbury’s silk weaving industry. Do pop in and have a look around, especially if you are on the look out for more unusual gifts for a special occasion.

The town centre house and birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough RA (1727-88) dates back to the 16th century and is now a museum and gallery which houses many of the original works of Thomas Gainsborough, more than any other gallery outside of London in fact, and some memorabilia from his life.
